Open Weights and American AI Leadership. There has been much discussion recently about limiting open models due to safety concerns. In response, Jensen Huang, Nvidia CEO, released a statement detailing the importance of an open AI ecosystem specifically mentioning the necessity of open models to ensure AI safety. Most of the players in the AI space signed his letter in support. It’s very interesting to see the companies that specifically did not. I have some thoughts on this that I’ll be releasing later this week.

A big part of sharing work is doing so online—a place where success and values can be easily warped to focus on meaningless metrics instead of meaningful impact. Instead of measuring your success by online presence, measure your success via your work and share that work online. A meaningful influence in your field and a following online come through trust, which is a slow-burn process rooted in excellent work.
Inside NVIDIA Rubin GPU Architecture: Powering the Era of Agentic AI. This is a great technical read on the Nvidia Rubin GPU architecture detailing how it’s tackling bottlenecks in modern AI inference. It’s an interesting read to understand the hardware level of modern AI and how data centers play into efficient large-scale inference.
OpenAI and Hugging Face partner to address security incident during model evaluation. This past week, an OpenAI model being evaluated on Hugging Face infrastructure for cybersecurity functionality managed to exploit a zero-day vulnerability in the sandbox infrastructure to gain internet access. The model then managed to find the solutions to the eval by gaining access to Hugging Face infrastructure with more eval information. Surprisingly, all sources I’ve seen gloss over exactly how accessing Hugging Face infra occurred, but I expect more on this might be revealed in a later postmortem. Importantly, this shows the impact capable models will have on cybersecurity and the importance of model guardrails (which were specifically removed for this eval).
The new rules of context engineering for Claude 5 generation models. The industry is hitting a point where we better understand the importance of model harnesses and the changes we can make to enable increasingly more intelligent models to work better within them. Anthropic details recent changes they’ve made to the Claude Code harness to enable Claude instead of inhibit it, including removing strict rules to enable Claude’s judgment, adopting progressive disclosure, and simplifying tool descriptions. We’ve seen many other model harnesses do this recently and I expect the rest to follow suit.
